Humidity is the environmental dial that decides whether a healthy grow finishes clean. Get relative humidity right for each stage and you protect roots in veg, keep transpiration moving, and stop a heavy late-flower canopy from rotting from the inside. This is the kit that holds your target RH steady, day and night.
Why humidity control decides your finish
Plants want different humidity at every stage, and getting it wrong costs you the crop in slow, quiet ways. Clones and seedlings have no real roots yet, so they drink through their leaves and want a humid, 70 to 80 percent environment. Through veg you bring it down as the root system takes over. By late flower a dense, resin-heavy canopy is the danger zone: warm, still, damp air trapped inside the buds is what botrytis (bud rot) needs to take hold, and one humid night can spoil weeks of work.
Humidity also steers how hard your plants transpire. Too dry and stomata close, so growth and nutrient uptake stall; too damp and the plant stops moving water at all. Aim for the band below, then let a good hygrometer fine-tune it.
| Stage | Target RH | Kit |
|---|---|---|
| Clones & propagation | 70–80% | Humidifier / prop dome |
| Vegetative | 55–70% | Humidifier or light dehumidifier |
| Early flower | 50–60% | Dehumidifier |
| Late flower | 40–50% | Dehumidifier / AC |
| Cure & storage | 58–62% | Two-way humidity packs |
Humidity is one piece of a bigger picture. This collection is part of our Climate & Environment guide, which covers how it fits the rest of your setup.
Dehumidifiers and AC: size to the moisture, not the room
A dehumidifier is rated by how much water it pulls per day, usually quoted in pints per day. The common mistake is sizing by floor area alone. Your real moisture load comes from the plants: a flowering canopy transpires most of the water you feed it straight back into the air, so a full room needs far more capacity than an empty tent of the same size. Add a margin, because an undersized unit runs flat out and never catches up.
The hardest moment is lights-off. When the lights cut, air temperature drops, the air holds less moisture, and RH spikes just as the canopy is still releasing water. Size for that peak, not the daytime average. For smaller rooms an Ideal-Air Pro Series unit covers a wide range of pint ratings; for commercial and sealed rooms, overhead Quest Dual and Anden dehumidifiers hang out of the way and shift serious volumes of water. In a fully sealed room an air conditioner earns its place, because it removes latent heat as well as moisture and holds temperature and humidity together while the lights add load.
Humidifiers for dry rooms, two-way packs for the cure
Not every problem is too much moisture. Propagation tents, dry-climate grow rooms and hard-working veg spaces often run too dry, which stresses young plants and stalls growth. A humidifier lifts RH back into band: ultrasonic units like the Ideal-Air Pro Series models suit tents and small rooms, while steam humidifiers such as the Anden range handle commercial spaces and pair with a humidistat so they hold a set point rather than fogging blindly. An AC Infinity controller-linked setup lets you automate the whole environment to a target.
Once the crop is cut, humidity control moves into the jar. Boveda and Integra Boost two-way packs release or absorb moisture to hold a fixed RH, commonly 62 percent for curing and long-term storage, which protects aroma and stops both mold and over-drying. They are cheap insurance on a harvest you have spent months growing.

Frequently asked questions
What size dehumidifier do I need?
Size to your moisture load, not just the room. A full flowering canopy puts most of the water you feed it back into the air, so match the unit's pints-per-day rating to that and add a margin for the lights-off spike.
Why does my humidity spike when the lights go off?
Cooler air holds less moisture, so when the lights cut and temperature drops, RH climbs while the canopy is still transpiring. Size your dehumidifier for that peak, not the daytime average, or run an AC that controls temperature and humidity together.
What humidity should I cure at?
Around 58 to 62 percent RH is the standard band for curing and storage. Two-way packs such as Boveda or Integra Boost hold that level inside the container, releasing or absorbing moisture to protect aroma and prevent mold.
