The 2Pot kit (this listing) adds a second tray, a second valve, a cross connector, and 1.6 ft of additional pipe. Both pots share the same reservoir. This is the most common starting point for small indoor grows because it keeps two plants in sync without requiring a larger tank.

The 4Pot kit scales up to four trays and valves, adds cross connectors, tee connectors, and 13 ft of pipe, and allows a FlexiTank with click-fit filter as an alternative to the standard reservoir. At four pots you will likely need to top up the reservoir more frequently depending on plant size and ambient temperature.

All three configurations use the same AQUAvalve5 and the same 3.9-gallon pot, so transitioning between sizes is straightforward — you are adding trays and pipe rather than replacing the core components. Compatibility

The 2Pot System uses standard AutoPot 3/8 inch push-fit fittings throughout. This means it is compatible with the full range of AutoPot extension components: additional 1Pot trays, FlexiTank reservoirs, AirDome aeration kits, and AirBase inserts. All of these are sold separately.

The system is gravity-fed and requires the reservoir to be elevated above the tray level — typically 6 to 12 inches is sufficient for reliable flow. No electricity is needed at the tray. If you want to aerate your nutrient solution in the reservoir, an external air pump can be connected to the reservoir without affecting how the AQUAvalve5 operates at the tray.

The system works with any liquid nutrient solution compatible with standard plastic fittings. If your source water has high mineral content or sediment, running it through a reverse osmosis filter before filling the reservoir is advisable to extend the life of the Golf Filter Kit and the AQUAvalve5 internals.

Growing media compatibility: the 1Pot tray is designed for use with free-draining media such as coco coir, perlite, clay pebbles (hydroton), or blends of these. It is not designed for soil mixes with high water retention, which can prevent the tray from drying between flood events and interfere with the AQUAvalve5 cycle. If you prefer not to use a drainage layer of clay pebbles or perlite at the base of your pot, AutoPot recommends using AirBases as a substitute (sold separately).

Usage Guidelines

AutoPot passive systems require a short manual watering period when plants are first established, followed by a handoff to the AQUAvalve5 once roots are developed enough to benefit from the tray-level moisture cycle.

• Start by hand-watering from above: During the first one to two weeks after transplant, water your plants from the top as you would in any container. This encourages roots to develop downward before being introduced to bottom-fed moisture from the tray.
• Fill the reservoir with nutrient solution: Mix your liquid feed to the appropriate EC and pH for the growth stage and pour it into the 12.4-gallon reservoir. Add the Golf Filter to the reservoir outlet before connecting the supply line.
• Open the inline taps to start the system: Once the reservoir is filled and the trays are connected, open the inline tap on each pot. The AQUAvalve5 will begin regulating flow from that point.
• Monitor and top up the reservoir: The only regular maintenance task is checking the reservoir level and refilling it when it runs low. The frequency depends on the number of plants, ambient temperature, and plant size. In warm conditions with actively growing plants, a 12.4-gallon reservoir serving two 3.9-gallon pots may need topping up every three to seven days.
• Adjust nutrient concentration at each reservoir fill: Because you cannot adjust what is already in the tray, nutrient concentration changes are made at the reservoir. Mix the solution to the target EC before filling.
• Do not add AirDomes until roots are established: If using AirDomes for additional oxygenation, connect them after the hand-watering phase to avoid disrupting early root development.

How to Set Up the AutoPot 2Pot System

1. Lay out all components and verify the kit contents against the 2Pot list: 1x 12.4-gallon reservoir with lid and grommet, 1x Golf Filter Kit, 2x 1Pot Grommeted Tray and Lid, 2x 3.9-gallon pot, 2x Inline Tap, 2x AQUAvalve5, 1x Cross Connector, 2x Root Control Square, and 6.6 ft of 3/8-inch black pipe.
2. Position the reservoir on a stable elevated surface — a shelf or stand at least 6 to 12 inches above the tray level. Ensure the surface can support the weight of the reservoir when full (12.4 gallons of water weighs approximately 103 lb).
3. Install the Golf Filter Kit into the reservoir grommet outlet. This prevents sediment and debris from reaching the AQUAvalve5 units.
4. Place the 1Pot trays at the desired positions. Insert the AQUAvalve5 into the grommeted port at the base of each tray according to AutoPot’s valve instructions. The valve sits inside the tray and controls inflow from the supply line.
5. Place Root Control Squares at the base of each pot before adding growing media. The root control square sits between the pot and the tray to manage root development and prevent root intrusion into the tray mechanism.
6. Connect the pipe: Run 3/8-inch black pipe from the reservoir outlet to the Cross Connector, then from the Cross Connector to each tray’s inline tap. Use the push-fit connectors — press the pipe end firmly into the fitting until it seats. Do not use thread sealant on push-fit joints.
7. Close the inline taps on both trays before filling the reservoir. This prevents water from flowing before you are ready.
8. Fill the reservoir with water or nutrient solution. Check all joints for drips before opening the taps.
9. Open the inline taps slowly to allow the system to prime. The AQUAvalve5 will fill the tray to its operating level and then close. Verify that both trays fill and that there are no leaks at the fittings.
