The Bluelab Probe Care pH & Conductivity kit gives you everything required to clean, hydrate, and calibrate pH probes and to clean and verify conductivity (ppm/EC) probes. Keeping probes clean is the single most effective step growers can take to preserve measurement accuracy — and accurate readings directly support reliable crop management and consistent growth.

Why Choose Bluelab Probe Care pH & Conductivity
- Complete two-probe maintenance in one kit. Most probe care products address pH or EC separately. This kit covers both probe types — cleaning, calibration, and storage for pH probes, and cleaning plus EC reference testing for conductivity probes — so there is nothing else to source.
- Single-use sachet format eliminates contamination risk. Each 20 ml solution sachet is sealed for single use. Once opened, the solution is used and discarded. This prevents the cross-contamination that occurs when growers repeatedly dip probes into shared calibration bottles over multiple sessions.
- Supports accurate readings, which simplify crop management. As stated in Bluelab’s own product notes, instrument accuracy is only as good as the probe is clean. Dirty or dehydrated pH membranes drift, and fouled conductivity electrodes read low. Routine cleaning with the correct solutions restores accuracy without guesswork.
- KCl storage solution keeps the pH membrane hydrated. The included potassium chloride sachet is used to hydrate the pH probe’s glass membrane between uses. A properly hydrated membrane responds faster and reads more accurately than a dried-out one — an often-overlooked maintenance step.
- Physical cleaning tools are included. The kit ships with a dedicated toothbrush and chamois for gentle mechanical cleaning of both probe types. These are sized and textured appropriately for probe surfaces and should not be substituted with household cleaning tools that may scratch sensors.
Best Uses for Bluelab Probe Care pH & Conductivity
This kit is suited to any grow environment where pH and EC meters are used regularly. Growers who check readings daily, or who run recirculating hydroponic systems where probe accuracy directly affects nutrient delivery, will get the most value from having a complete maintenance kit on hand.
- Routine calibration maintenance — Use the pH 7.0 and pH 4.0 sachets to perform a two-point calibration on any Bluelab pH pen, combo meter, or controller probe at the recommended interval (typically every 30 days, or when readings drift).
- Post-reservoir cleaning — After nutrient solution contact, mineral scale and biological deposits can form on both pH and EC probes. The dedicated cleaners in this kit are formulated to dissolve these deposits without damaging probe materials.
- EC probe verification — The 2.77 EC reference sachet lets you confirm that your conductivity probe is reading within acceptable tolerance. If the meter reads significantly outside 2.77 EC against the reference, the probe needs cleaning or replacement.
- Probe storage between grows — The KCl sachet is used to fill the storage cap or soaking cup when the pH probe is not actively in use, preventing the junction from drying out and extending probe service life.
- Hydroponic and coco coir systems — In recirculating DWC, NFT, or coco-fed systems, pH and EC readings are checked multiple times daily. Probe fouling is faster in these environments, making a dedicated cleaning kit a practical part of regular system maintenance alongside nutrients like beneficial microbial supplements that can affect solution clarity.
- Soil and soilless substrate grows — Growers using soil pH pens with spear electrodes also benefit from regular cleaning and calibration to account for organic matter on the junction. This kit’s pH cleaner and calibration sachets are appropriate for liquid-junction pH sensors used in soil applications as well.
Usage Guidelines
Follow these steps for each maintenance session. Printed instructions are included in the kit.
- Prepare the workspace. Set out the plastic cups included in the kit. You will use separate cups for each solution to avoid cross-contamination.
- Clean the pH probe. Apply a small amount of pH Probe Cleaner to the probe tip. Use the toothbrush included in the kit to gently scrub the glass bulb and junction. Rinse with clean water. Blot dry with the chamois — do not use paper towels, which can leave fibres on the junction.
- Calibrate the pH probe. Open one pH 7.0 sachet and pour into a plastic cup. Rinse the probe tip in the solution, then leave the probe submerged for the meter’s calibration routine. Repeat with a pH 4.0 sachet for two-point calibration. Discard used sachets and solution; do not return solution to the sachet.
- Store the pH probe. After calibration, open the KCl sachet and pour into the probe’s storage cap or a clean plastic cup. Place the probe junction in the KCl solution when not in active use.
- Clean the conductivity probe. Apply a small amount of Conductivity Probe Cleaner to the electrode pins. Use the toothbrush to gently agitate around the pins. Rinse with clean water and blot dry.
- Verify the EC probe. Open the 2.77 EC sachet and pour into a clean cup. Submerge the conductivity probe and read the displayed value. A reading close to 2.77 EC confirms the probe is clean and within calibration. If the reading is significantly off, repeat the cleaning step.
For growers managing nutrient programs that include organic inputs — such as molasses-based additives — probe fouling can be faster due to higher biological activity in the reservoir. Increase cleaning frequency accordingly.
