This is a replacement sediment pre-filter cartridge for a HyperLogic commercial reverse-osmosis system — the disposable cartridge that catches grit before the water reaches the RO pump and membranes. It is a 5 micron cartridge in the big-diameter 20 inch x 4.5 inch format, built from melt-blown polypropylene. It is a consumable, not a machine: you buy it to replace a loaded cartridge on a system you already own. This page gives the maker’s published operating-pressure window and replacement guidance, the label specs a carrying retailer reproduces, and an honest list of what neither publishes.
What it is
A poly-spun sediment cartridge is the first stage of water treatment on a HyperLogic commercial RO line. The label states it removes silt, rust, dirt and other assorted suspended solids from the water, and that on Commercial Series RO systems it sits in the gray housing under the RO, offering OEM level protection to costly equipment such as the RO pump and helping extend the life of RO membranes. Growers migrating from an older parts list should note the label records it as formerly HyperLogic HL 11620. This particular listing carries the “10/CS” distributor pack code; what that code maps to as a purchasable unit is a distributor convention, not a maker specification, so its interpretation is held (see Honest fit).
Why a depth sediment filter goes first
Melt-blown media is a depth filter: fibres are laid down in graded layers so particles are trapped throughout the thickness of the medium rather than only on its outer face, which lets the cartridge hold considerably more solids before it blinds off than a thin surface screen of the same rating. That matters upstream of an RO membrane for a mechanical reason: as a filter loads with captured solids the open flow area shrinks, so the pressure drop measured across it rises steadily — which is why the differential between an inlet and an outlet gauge is the standard way to tell a loaded cartridge from a clean one. A high-pressure RO pump fed through a blinded pre-filter is starved, and abrasive grit that gets past a pre-filter reaches membrane surfaces that are expensive to replace. The pre-filter is the cheap consumable that protects both.

What it fits
Compatibility here is stated by the sources, not inferred from the cartridge’s dimensions.
- HyperLogic Commercial Series RO systems. The label places this cartridge in the gray housing under the RO on Commercial Series systems.
- Industrial and Heavy-Industrial RO with clean-in-place. The label also states these cartridges are commonly used on Industrial and Heavy-Industrial RO systems with CIP (clean in place) units, capturing the removed membrane scale build-up.
- Feed pressure at the housing. The maker’s operation guidelines put the sediment pre-filter’s inlet and outlet both between 20 psi and 80 psi in normal operation — a pre-membrane, low-pressure position, well below the 100 psi to 190 psi window the maker specifies for system pressure downstream.
- Housing fit is by format, not by brand claim. Neither source states compatibility with third-party big-blue housings of the same nominal format, so that is held rather than asserted — confirm your housing before ordering.
How to use it — the maker’s published guidance
Every instruction below comes from Hydro-Logic’s own HyperLogic documents for this cartridge. Nothing is carried over from other filters in the range.
- Scheduled replacement. The maker’s Maintenance & Filter Replacement Guide recommends changing the HyperLogic sediment pre-filter cartridge about every 3-4 months.
- Change on differential, not only on the calendar. The same guide says that if the pressure drop across the cartridge filter — the differential between the filter inlet and filter outlet pressure gauges — increases by 10 psi, the cartridges should be changed.
- Watch the gauges against the operating window. The Operation Guidelines put both filter-in and filter-out pressure inside the published range and add that a 10% pressure difference requires the sediment filter to be changed.
- After a clean-in-place run. On systems where these cartridges catch CIP debris, the label directs you to replace these filters after each CIP operational run.
The maker is explicit that these are general recommendations: it states that when equipment needs to be changed is highly dependent on feed water quality, pre-filtration, run time hours, number of membranes and previous maintenance, and that there is no prescribed formula — which is why it asks operators to monitor frequently and keep a data log. Beyond the above, this cartridge is a single-use consumable: it is not published as cleanable or backwashable, so do not attempt to wash and reinstall one.

- Note (M-07): the brand’s consumer store hydrologicsystems.com does not list this commercial-line cartridge (product sitemap enumerated 2026-07-19), and the brand-owner listing at hawthornegc.com returns HTTP 403 to both the WAF-immune fetch and an anonymous fetch. Product-identity specs therefore lead with the carrying retailer above, per the Big Foot precedent.
- Depth filtration and pressure drop (universal, physics-definitional): melt-blown media traps particles through the thickness of the medium rather than only at its surface; as any filter loads with captured solids its open flow area falls and the pressure drop across it rises. No product-specific value is drawn from this general physics.
